June 2017 Mille Lacs Open Basin Walleye Trolling Report: The open basin trolling bite on Mille Lacs Lake is off to a great start as many big walleyes are ending up in the net. It always feels good to be back on my favorite body of water for the first time each year. Water temps have been surprisingly warm this spring which helped push those tullibees from the shallows and out to the basin. And where the tullibees roam – there are big walleyes close by. Click on link above for the rest of the report.

July 2016 Mille Lacs Lake Open Basin Trolling Report: The open basin trolling bite is really starting to heat up and many big walleyes are finding the net! Water temps are now in the low 70’s and the tullibees are making their way out to the open basin to find cooler water triggering the walleyes to follow. My boat is averaging about 3 fish per hour and the quality has been good – about ½ are over the 24 inch mark and this last week 3 taped over 28. Click on link above for the rest of the report.

June 2016 Mille Lacs Lake Open Basin  Walleye Trolling Report: The open basin trolling bite is starting to heat up on Mille Lacs Lake. More and more walleyes along with tullibees are starting to show up out there and it should only get better as the water temps increase. Click on link above for the rest of the report.

July 2015 Mille Lacs Lake Open Basin Trolling Report: No doubt – the bite on Mille Lacs Lake this summer has been tough!   I believe there are many factors contributing to the lack of fish being caught; the overall number bigger walleyes are certainly down, an abundance amount of forage base and thanks to the zebra mussels the water clarity is very clear making fishing more difficult. June 2015 Mille Lacs Lake Open Basin Trolling Report: The 2015 open basin trolling bite is slowly but surely starting to happen.  I was able to get out a few hours the 2nd week of June and found a few active fish.  The sign is actually pretty good out there but the cooler water temps (mid 60’s) and unstable weather patterns put the walleyes in a negative mood. 2015 Mille Lacs Lake Opening Night Trolling Report:  It was great to be back on the water fishing my favorite lake and for my favorite species – walleyes!  Troy Rahn was kind enough to let me hop into his boat for the evening along with Jackie Rivard.  We launched out of Hunter’s Point Resort just before midnight on Friday and motored all the way across to the west side of the lake.
